In October 2022, ChatGPT came roaring into the world, and at OnLine Translation, we were both curious and… a little worried. Suddenly, a competitor appeared on the scene – a true AI – and many immediately asked us: Can you even compete?
Test chat-GPT
So, what did we do? We tested ChatGPT, of course! We fed it some of the texts we know best – legal, medical and technical texts filled with precious details. At first, we were a little impressed: It wrote like an eager intern. But as we started to read more closely, it became clear that something was missing. Some of the “translated” terms could make any lawyer (and probably patient) a little nervous. ChatGPT had missed something essential – the small but crucial nuances.
With a sigh of relief, we realized that there is still a place for us humans, at least when it comes to niche areas.
Our own AI solution
Honestly? We haven’t been sitting on our hands either. In fact, we’ve built our own translation module that combines AI with real human insight. So we get the best of both worlds: The speed of AI and the keen eye of our professional translators. Where ChatGPT can (still) lose the nuances of a complex document, our module ensures that there’s always an experienced translator on hand to catch the important details.

Three reasons to choose human translation for complex texts
- Nuance and precision: Legal and technical texts require a deep understanding of language and context that only an experienced translator can provide.
- Cultural adaptation: A machine doesn’t understand cultural differences or connotations – we do. This ensures that the translation fits the target audience.
- Quality assurance: AI can make mistakes that can have major consequences. We make sure there is always a human quality check to make sure everything is in place.
Should you choose robot or human?
ChatGPT can handle a quick everyday text, but when it comes to legal or technical details, the human wins! We always recommend using ChatGPT for more informal texts, but come to us when precision is a must.
In other words – let AI be the assistant, but keep humans as the boss! We’re here to ensure quality, so your translations always land on the right side of the law (and the humor).
