When multilingual translations require more than words

Multilingual translation isn’t just about swapping words from one language to another. It’s about understanding culture, audience and context – and making sure the message is received in the way it was intended.

At OnLine Translation, we have years of experience helping companies communicate across languages and cultures – from a few markets to a global presence.

1. From 3 to 24 languages – one customer’s growth journey

Multilingual translations can be a key part of a company’s growth strategy. As Diane explains:

"We had a customer who initially needed translations in 2-3 languages. After a while, they grew and suddenly we were translating into 24 languages. It was exciting to follow the development and see how the language work kept up with the company's growth"

As a company expands its markets, it requires consistent, professional and culturally appropriate communication – whether it’s technical manuals, websites or marketing materials.

2. Cultural understanding is key

Multilingual translation is all about understanding the target audience.
Language is closely linked to culture, and small differences in word choice, tone or tone of voice can have a big impact.

A concrete example from our work is a voice-over assignment where a client wanted female voices in Middle Eastern languages.
This was important for the message to be received correctly in relation to the target audience and cultural norms.

That’s why we always ask:

  • Who is the target audience?

  • What is the purpose of the communication?

  • How can language best support the message – culturally and emotionally?

3. When the target audience is children – or adults

Another important factor is the age and comprehension level of the recipient. If the recipients are children, the language should naturally be adapted to their universe – with simpler sentences, lighter words and a friendlier tone of voice.

These may seem like small details, but this is where the good translation differs from the mediocre.

4. We translate – but we also communicate

At OnLine Translation, we see translation as much more than words. We see it as communication across cultures.
Our goal is that your message is understood correctly – regardless of language, culture or context.
